I don't think that this hurricane season really proves or disproves global warming. The 2005 hurricane season was just as devastating if not more so. Harvey was the first Category 3 or stronger to strike the US since 2005. This 12 year stretch is the longest hurricane drought for the US in 100 years. As historical hurricane seasons go 2017 isn't anything record breaking. Edited: Kyrroeth on 9th Sep, 2017 - 12:25am
Hurricane Irma strengthens to Category 5 as it bears down on Florida's coast. The National Hurricane Center said Irma's maximum sustained winds have increased to 160 mph, and the storm is about 300 miles south-southeast of Miami. Ref. USAToday.
It seemed inevitable that Irma would strengthen given the "Perfect storm" conditions that are in the locality. I just hope that people have got out of it's path for when it lands. I love the Keys area and really hope it doesn't get affected too much. Fingers crossed. X .

Currently Irma is still moving west as it has made land fall on Cuba. So far it has yet to turn to the North as everyone keeps predicting. Winds are down to 130 MPH which is normal when a hurricane is on land. We will see if it stays on its westward track or starts to turn North.
September is when the peak part of the Hurricane season really ramps up. You usually see more storms in September than the rest of the Hurricane season on average. This does not surprise me to see more storms with the warm waters of the ocean during this time of year.
The day Florida has been dreading is finally here.
Irma is now a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 130 mph. It is expected to make landfall over Key West around 7 a.m. Sunday, before moving up Florida's west coast in the afternoon, the National Hurricane Center says.
Its outer rain bands lashed the Florida Keys late Saturday. A hurricane-force wind gust of 74 mph was recorded on Key West.
Key West residents tell CNN there was flooding on the city's streets early Sunday and KEYS Energy Services said all 29,000 of its customers -- from Key West to the Seven-Mile Bridge -- had lost power. Ref. CNN.
