Hurricane Maria makes landfall in Puerto Rico packing 155 mph winds. The center of Hurricane Maria made landfall Wednesday near Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, around 6:15 a.m. ET, the National Hurricane Center reported. The island was bracing for the Category 4 storm, which was bringing with it maximum sustained winds of 155 mph. Ref. USAToday.

You are correct there, although I don't think the US will be able to be a panacea for all of their storm induced ills. I mean look at New Orleans, they are still trying to recover from Katrina in some ways. That said, Puerto Rico has it a lot better off than the island countries that have no real support structure. I guess the UN will help where it can, but I fear that will be limited indeed.

Because the problem isn't getting it there, it's getting it to where it is needed. I read an article today and saw on the news pallets and pallets full of stuff (Medicine, water, food, etc.) sitting at the POD. The problem is getting it out to the all the people that need it and to the right people in a place where infrastructure has been largely destroyed. This is not an easy mission.

Yes with most of the island low on supplies and low on fuel the logistics of getting supplies to the places it needs to go is a nightmare at best. Some parts of the island are cut off with bridges out so no one can get the relief supplies to them. While a lot of hands are there to offer help it will take a while to get everything where it needs to be.

Yeah, they are using choppers from the National Guard and the Carrier off the coast but crews need rest. I pray for those people down there. They took a direct hit.
