Sensible driving saves more gas than drivers think. A new study has quantified the impact speeding and slamming on the brakes has on fuel economy and consumption. Aggressive behavior behind the wheel can lower gas mileage in light-duty vehicles, which can equate to losing about $0.25 to $1 per gallon. Source 8v.
Yeah, I agree with this and sadly I tend to be an aggressive driver. I don't know what it is and it isn't all the time, but there are times when I get behind the wheel that I just feel I have to go fast and anyone in my way is the enemy. This is especially true when I'm in the left lane of a county, state, or interstate highway and someone is going slow. I get downright mean on occasion… which I know is bad and I try to control it.
I know this to be true, for many reasons. The most recent empirical proof of consumption as it relates to economy is since I bought my recent car. I've purchased a used Nissan Leaf 2012 EV and, since I've been driving it, I've noticed the power to aggressiveness almost immediately improves from the numbers of the dash. When I drive aggressively, the dashboard shows a greater power consumption, reducing my overall distance per charge. When I drive more reasonably, I gain at least 20% on my distance to empty. This has now come across into my ICE driving as well, and I've already seen an improvement in my MP. Having the immediate visibility into how rabbit starts and heavy foot costs has retrained my habits *smile*.

Driving sensibly has always proved to save gas. Back in the 70s when they lowered all the speed limits down to 55 that was to save a lot of gas in our nation. Driving a stick can help save money too. I tend to drive sensibly and still a little aggressive if needs be.
