If the man is qualified for the job then why not? So far, the Trinis who have been in that same position didn't make any significant changes.

Well the Parliament has rejected having a foreigner as Police Commissioner. Let's see how long they will take now to get a Police Commissioner. They may also change the law to ensure only a citizen of Trinidad & Tobago can become the Police Commissioner.

If a person is QUALIFIED to do the job BETTER than a local, then what is the problem? Are we hang out so much in the race issue that we really do not want a "white" guy dealing with the issues affecting the country? I find the whole thing really stupid.

Police Commissioner Of Trinidad & Tobago

Name: George

Title: New police commissioner and deputy

Comments: Let us hope that the PSC will, at last, find the right commissioner and deputy commissioner for our police set up who will have the ability.experience and knowledge of how to deal with our crime scenario and the Mister Bigs who generate a lot of the crime here. It is clear that this nation since our independence has failed to produce men of this criteria to fill these positions who are able to stem the flow of crime here. The past record is proof of this. After decades of filling these positions with local candidates crime has continued to escalate here, and this is reflected in the attitudes and lack of true patriotism in the ranks in the manner in which they carry out their duties and view their positions as protectors, not of all of our citizens. They still harbour the habits of colonialism by offering the best protection to the well-off, and their masters. Since our independence, a series of new and varied crimes have entered the pipeline, such as the breeding of potential terrorists and the old well -embedded crimes such ar corruption among those in positions of power and murders by ordinary citizens continue to make headline news. The appointment of Mister Gibbs and his deputy was a good move, however, but because we are infested with so many highly professional bigots and corrupt police procedures which they seek to eliminate their contracts were quickly terminated for unsound reasons. We must now keep our fingers crossed and hope that these positions are not again filled by local clones.which will then make no difference whatsoever to our crime scenario.

Title: Appointing a new police commissioner

Comments: No ex politician here is going to make a good commissioner of police and this blatantly obvious because of the racial aspects of our politics. When are the politicians here really face up to reality. Appointing any local person here to fill the post of commissioner of police is just a waste of time and money. They have been doing this since our independence and the results are more increase in crime, more criminals and less detection of serious crimes here. In addition there is now the growing saga of young policemen jumping on the band wagon of local crime as crime becomes a good paying occupation. How many times must the politicians and responsible officials be reminded of the constantly high annual rate of murders and the fact that our police are now tarnished with the brush of corruption, which is recognized by most of our ordinary citizens thus the lack of any effort to assist the police. It is not only that, the heart of the matter here is that we do not breed the type of citizen who meets the criteria, is patriotic or experienced enough to handle the job of commissioner without succumbing to the wishes and desires of the Mister Bigs who generates most of the crimes here. We urgently need an well experienced outsider and a team of his associates despite color, class or creed as our new commissioner of police who must not be hindered to correct what's has gone wrong here with our police and its procedures. The reform too of the justice system would contribute in assisting the local police to enforce law and order in a correct manner. The local justice system too has also been tarnished to some extent with he brush of corruption, which reflects on the local police duties and ability to deal with local crimes in a pragmatic, just and fair manner.

Title: qualification requirements for police vacancies

Comments: The requirements that are shown in the statement below my comment and published in one of our local newspaper, emphasizing that these are the qualities required by suitable candidates applying for the posts advertised seems rather strange. To me. One would assume that any local senior police officer applying to fill the vacancies should already meet almost all of the required qualifications and desired criteria. If this is not so, then why are we operating a police system with those holding senior police positions lacking these requirements?. I really do not understand why it is necessary to pursue these extensive requirements if local suitable candidates are readily available. Requirements of candidates Candidates will then be assessed in various capacities to determine the suitability and expand on the information provided in the job application form. These assessments may include, but are not limited to, evaluations of core competency factors, the spokesman said. Candidates may also be asked to demonstrate - Proficiency in Leadership by demonstrating competencies in executive policing, leading strategic change, leading a workforce and decision making; Proficiency in People Leadership by demonstrating superior skills in working with others, serving the public and managing performance; Proficiency in Technical Skills by demonstrating professional policing skills and operational management and Proficiency in Business Skills by demonstrating business management skills and professionalism. Step five of the selection process will include panel interviews where shortlisted candidates will be scheduled for an interview to determine suitability. Step six will enable best-fit candidates to undergo financial and security checks. The last step will be medical screening to ensure that successful candidates are fit to meet the demands of the role.
