Beware Of Firefox 57

We do have a general FireFox Thread here: Source 2i but I did not want this to be lost as many unsuspecting FireFox users might want to have the heads up on this. I mainly use FireFox because of the add-ons and the ability to manipulate the browser for my needs. Over the past year the Mozilla crew has been continually changing the code of the browser supposedly to be more lightweight and faster with the downside of having some add-ons become non-functional. I was able to live with that because most of the add-ons still worked up to FF 56, however with the release of FireFox 57 this all changes with 98% of all my add-ons being removed for incompatibility, a layout that sucks and the inability to find replacements. Obviously, the Mozilla crew had no foresight into the FF 57 release. You will lose all your add-ons if you go to FF 57 so beware. I have to find an old backup now and revert so I can get back my add-ons otherwise there is no reason to stay with FF, I may as well go with Chrome or one of the others like Dragon.

Firefox Beware

After having been in this industry for almost 4 decades, I have to say that this is not unusual. Typically a software application will become popular and trendy, outselling it's competition by wide margins and then, after one update, break. I've seen this with Microsoft products, Wordperfect, AV solutions, browsers, and many more categories. It's almost like the company gets to a point where they fail to test their products before releasing them and, unless the company has a near monopoly on the products line (As Microsoft currently does with Windows and Office) the product drops to last place in the race. Perhaps its a change in vision when new leadership takes over, or focus when profit margins become before quality, but it happens often.

Gknightbc, that is true, however my main disappointment is the lack of warning about disabled add-ons and extensions. If I did not make a backup I would have lost lots of valuable information that does not carry over to Firefox 57. I believe that the Mozilla team, in their quest for speed, forget that what makes FF attractive is what it has that other browsers do not: add-ons. If you get rid of all the add-ons then what makes them special? Additionally, while its fine to think about the average user they should not forget developers who want options other than basic web browsing.

Firefox Beware

It sucks. I have to start considering my options for another browser plus in the admin section they put it like there are tons of add-on progs but not for this version. rolleyes.gif.

Firefox Beware

It's been like this for a long time. You usually have to specifically turn off updates in order to preserve your browser operational state, with addins, etc. At my office, I have five browsers, mainly due to compatibility with various version of hardware and firmware I access. It's a mess.

Beware Of Firefox 57

This is sad for Firefox. During some time, I only used Firefox because of it's speed, lighter than Chrome.

Now I only use Chrome because some sites that uses Google account works better with it than with Firefox.

However, because of its lightness, I'm planning to go back to Firefox, even if I loose some functionalities.

Beware Firefox 57

It had cool add-ons but now the available add-ons that carry over is only like 10% of what it used to be before that's stupid for an "Upgrade".

Firefox Quantum now has a number of extensions that can replace or better older extensions. They are all not 100% yet but there are workarounds. I have updated mostly for security and to stop the annoying forced upgrades which caused me to constantly revert to backups. In any case here is a layout option in case that is an issue for you: Firefox Quantum Rounded Tabs.
