By studying the way the Hydrogen element bonds to others to form some good stuff the help us all survive is something good to know. Knowing the strengths of these bonds and how they bond can open more doors in the future for us to be able to make stronger items that are lighter in weight I believe.
Photocatalyst makes hydrogen production 10 times more efficient. Hydrogen is an alternative source of energy that can be produced from renewable sources of sunlight and water. A group of researchers has developed a photocatalyst that increases hydrogen production tenfold. Ref. Source 4x.
How enzymes produce hydrogen. Researchers have clarified the crucial catalytic step in the production of hydrogen by enzymes. The enzymes, called [FeFe]-hydrogenases, efficiently turn electrons and protons into hydrogen. They are thus a candidate for the biotechnological production of the potential energy source. Source 9z.
Hydrogen fuel from water by harnessing red and near-infrared regions of sunlight. Scientists have synthesized a compound that absorbs near-infrared light to produce hydrogen from water. The compound contains three ruthenium atoms connected by an organic molecule. The absorbed light stimulates electrons to 'jump' into orbitals that do not exist in other, similar compounds. This is the first successful use of infrared light to reduce water into hydrogen, which can be used for energy conversion and storage, and other industrial purposes in a future sustainable energy society.
