We shall discuss the Ranger class in the Dungeons & Dragons 5e role-playing game. What are the benefits of playing the character class of Ranger? Does playing a Ranger have a down side? How should one properly play the Ranger class?
Ultimately the ranger is a skirmisher and support character. In combat, most act to cause damage from afar and occasionally hinder the movement of foes.
In most cases, the key to a good Ranger is mobility.
The 5E Ranger has been criticized as having some balance issues, its Beastmaster subclass in particular, while interesting in concept, was voted as the most disappointingly subpar subclass in the game. In response, Wizards of the Coast released an Unearthed Arcana article with a revised ranger class. I strongly recommend that any Dungeon Masters accept the new version as the default.
