We shall discuss the Barbarian class in the Dungeons & Dragons 5e role-playing game. What are the benefits of playing the character class of Barbarian? Does playing a Barbarian have a down side? How should one properly play the Barbarian class?

The Barbarian is both a tank and a dealer of damage. As one of my players can attest, a well set up Barb can soak up ridiculous amounts of incoming damage so others don't have to.

The primary consideration here is knowing when to use rage. Use it too soon, and it is unavailable for the BBEG around the corner. Avoid using it to save it for a fight that never comes, and it might as well be wasted.

It should be noted, the Berserker subclass has a trap to it. Gaining a level of exhaustion every time you use your Rage is a quick way to end up useless or dead.

It is a shame about the berserker subclass. They can use their primary feature in one fight a day without making themselves useless. It is very poorly designed. That is a shame because it looks to be great fun.

I think a well played barbarian can do a lot of things just as well and at times better than your normal tank or fighter. Having a big burly barbarian can be a good part to any group.
