We shall discuss the Fighter class in the Dungeons & Dragons 5e role-playing game. What are the benefits of playing the character class of Fighter? Does playing a Fighter have a down side? How should one properly play the Fighter class?
Fighters are the most versatile of martial classes. They can take on any direct combat role.
I like to set up fighters with this in mind, able to change what they are up to on the field depending on the circumstances. If a tank is needed today, strap on the shield and man that front line. If ranged support is likely to be an issue, pick up that longbow or those javelins. Etc.
It should be noted that higher level fighters get more attacks and feats/ability score increases than any other class.
A true Cuisinart on the battlefield, the Fighter is built to take damage and deal it right back. In the right designs, they are unparalleled at dealing constant, long term damage, unlike casters that quickly run out of spells slots to cast. If there are dozen round battles in your future, Fighters are the most likely to keep up the output.
