Jones victory is huge for Democrats, but there's some good news for Republicans, too. Here's our analysis. With Doug Jones' Senate special election victory Tuesday, Democrats chipped away at the GOP's already-slim Senate majority and scored a huge psychological victory leading up to the 2018 midterm elections. While a blow to Republicans, it spares the GOP the embarrassment and political fallout of having to call for an ethics investigation of their newest senator, who faces allegations that he sexually abused several teenagers when in his 30s. The winner of the Alabama special election, Senator-elect Doug Jones, says he's ready to move forward despite Roy Moore's refusal to concede the race.

Jones, a Democrat, told CNN's "State of the Union" Sunday morning that he's "Ready to go regardless of whether (Moore) concedes or not."

"I say it's time to move on. Alabama has spoken," Jones added. "It was a close election, there is no question about that. But, you know, elections can be close sometimes. But now it's time to heal." Ref. CNN.

Alabama has certified Democrat Doug Jones' victory over Republican Roy Moore in this month's special Senate election.

Moore had refused to concede in the wake of the election result. On Wednesday, he filed an election complaint alleging voter fraud may have occurred, calling for a delay in the certification of the results that declared Jones officially the winner and asked for "A new special election."

Alabama Circuit Judge Johnny Hardwick, however, denied Moore's attempt Thursday afternoon. Ref. CNN.
