Do you know anyone with Cerebral Palsy? Cerebral Palsy is caused by an injury to the brain before, during, or shortly after birth. In many cases, no one knows for sure what caused the brain injury or what may have been done to prevent the injury.
People with Cerebral Palsy has lots of physical impediments as well as speech, what is interesting is that most of us have watch a kid or a person with this problem (They usually shake and do not have a control on their bodies) and when we hear them talking we assume it is mental retardation but is not! Some of them may have some learning disabilities but they are capable to learn at the speed of any other person.

Cerebral Palsy (Hover)
My youngest son (who turns 14 next week) has mild cerebral palsy (CP). It is mild enough that most people don't realize that anything is wrong with him, but it still present s many challenges in his life. He used to walk on the balls of his feet, but had surgery when he was younger to lengthen the muscles in the backs of his legs to allow him to walk normally and even run (though not very well). He has struggled with speech and both large and fine motor skills, but has made a lot of progress as he works at it.
I also know a wonderful woman who has fairly severe CP who has accomplished great things in her life in spite of her challenges. She has born and raised 3 fine sons who served LDS missions. She and her husband (who is our pediatrician) just returned from an LDS mission in Korea.
