Cancer-Stricken 34-Year-Old Chinese Computer Engineer Dies After Being Denied Care in Private US Immigration Prison
Earlier this month, a thirty-four-year-old Chinese computer engineer, Hiu Lui Ng, who overstayed his visa, died in a Rhode Island immigration detention center. He had cancer in his liver, lung and bones, and a fractured spine. Despite repeated complaints of severe pain, Mr. Ng was refused independent medical evaluation by immigration officials. Before Mr. Ng died on August 6th, he told his sister that the nurses at the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Center in Rhode Island had told him to "Stop faking" his illness. We speak to immigration attorney Joshua Bardavid, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) and Renee Feltz, co-creator of the site BusinessOfDetention.com.

What's the future of US for-profit immigrant detention?
The president-elect has been widely criticised for his anti-immigrant positions and has vowed to bulk up border, immigration and police authorities - possibly preventing for-profit detention centres from closing. Ref. Source 4c.
Under Trump there will probably be a big increase in these places. There will be more jobs created for it but what might happen there will probably surround a lot of controversy.

Mexican man's widow sues over Otay Mesa jail death
The widow of a Mexican man who crossed into the U.S. Illegally is suing the federal government, alleging staff at the Otay Mesa detention center ignored his pleas for medical care. He died weeks later from complications of pneumonia. Ref. Source 3j.
After this story if the allegations prove true, and they sound like they are, then she deserves to win this case. Yes, these people are here illegally, but they have certain rights as human beings and while in our care those rights should be respected. Medical care is one of those rights.
Yes all should have basic rights and being seen by a doctor or other medical professionals should have seen this and caught it. We need to do more to make sure basic humane treatment of our prisoners. Now if he knew he had this and came here to get caught and refused to allow himself be checked out then it another case all together and a rigged case so she could get money.
