Physicists develop faster way to make Bose-Einstein condensates. Physicists have invented a new technique to cool atoms into condensates, which is faster than the conventional method and conserves a large fraction of the original atoms. The team used a new process of laser cooling to cool a cloud of rubidium atoms all the way from room temperature to 1 microkelvin, or less than one-millionth of a degree above absolute zero. The coolest experiment in the universe. NASA's Cold Atom Laboratory on the International Space Station is the first facility in orbit to produce clouds of "Ultracold" atoms, which can reach a fraction of a degree above absolute zero. Nothing in nature is known to hit the temperatures achieved in laboratories like CAL, which means the orbiting facility is regularly the coldest known spot in the universe. Source 9t.
Its hard to imagine conducting ultra experiments in an environment where you are already subjected to life threats- one thing goes wrong and that will be the end of all up there.
