Europe's Schiaparelli spacecraft crashed-landed, possibly exploded when it hit Mars surface
Two days after the European Space Agency's craft was scheduled to land, the agency confirmed it hit Martian soil at a considerable speed and possibly exploded on impact. Schiaparelli was designed to test technologies for a much larger roving laboratory scheduled for launch in 2020. Its disappearance puts the timing and design of that mission in doubt. Ref. Ref. Now isn't it a shame to spend all that money and travel so far only to end by crashing into Mars? Someone didn't plan something correctly somewhere. The Rover used an impact balloon thingy that cut that impact greatly maybe they didn't have it in their design.
