Lower Drinking Age Is Criticized

On the face of it, the notion seems counterintuitive, but to the presidents of some of the nation's most prestigious colleges, it makes a lot of sense: Lowering the legal drinking age might get students to drink less.
Really I do not know if it will make any difference at all. I think more education on alcohol and more parent child talks on how to drink responsible might be a better solution. In Ontario it used to be 18 now 19 Quebec I think is still 16 or was 20 years ago.
Like many things if a child is kept in the dark about it then is given full blown access to it the likely hood of misuse is higher.
I grew up in a state where the drinking age was 18 until I was close to getting out of school. They raise that drinking age to 21 then but I was already 18 so I was still able to buy alcohol.
I found out that many kids that never had a chance to drink would drink till they passed out. This is not a good thing. I would say lowering the drinking age will not solve anything. Krakyn has it right. Only by education and parent involvement is the drinking problems going to get better.
