Gay couples in Utah urged not to sue
As the first gay couples lined up to tie the knot in California, a Utah state senator expressed his desire to do so as well. "If and when we do, we will be husband and husband under the law and in the eyes of the community in California," Sen. Scott McCoy, D-Salt Lake, said on the Senate Democrat blog. However, McCoy concedes that in Utah, same-sex marriages won't be recognized because it's banned in the state's law and constitution. And, he adds, he has no intention to challenge that.

Gays don't need to be protected, governor says
Herbert stopped short of condemning Salt Lake City's proposed anti-discrimination ordinance during his first appearance on the governor's monthly news conference on KUED Ch. 7, but said a fair-housing and employment law for the state's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community would unnecessarily create a new "protected class." Utah is one of the most hypocritical states in the US. We have lots of gays here specially in SLC. Sometimes when I speak to friends and relatives it saddens me that some folks can hate gays so much you know what am I saying? They dont do anything to anyone, leave them alone and stop trying to dictate how they should live their lives!
I'm sure the discrimination against homosexuals in Utah is partly because of the strong religious background of the state. So many people are Mormon or of other religious groups in Utah, and have been raised to not tolerate homosexuality.
