Some Asian Americans Using Sex-Selection Abortions to Have Boys Over Girls

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The practice of sex-selection abortions is most commonly associated with the cultural mores of Asian nations like China or India. But a new report indicates the influx of immigrants to the United States has brought the grisly practice here and census data is beginning to show a slight gender imbalance as a result. Asian culture values sons as they are looked to for carrying on the family name and inheriting property and possessions. In India, girls are seen as an expense that poor and middle class families can't afford due to costly dowries. As Indian and Chinese immigrants come to the United States, they aren't checking their social values at the border. Researchers Douglas Almond and Lena Edlund have published new findings to this effect in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. They say their analysis of the 2000 Census shows the odds prematurely increasing for Asian families from China, Korea and India to have a boy if they already have a girl child.

Obama Opposes, Democrats Defeat Sex-Selection Abortion Ban

Democrats in the House of Representatives prevented passage of a bill that would ban sex-selection abortions. The legislation needed a two-thirds vote and Democrats voted overwhelmingly against the legislation after President Barack Obama and Planned Parenthood came out in opposition.

With a 246-168 vote, the bill did not obtain the two-thirds majority necessary to pass. Republicans voted for the bill on a 226-7 margin while Democrats opposed banning sex-selection abortions on 161-20 vote margin.

The bill would make it a federal offense to knowingly do any one of the following four things: (1) perform an abortion, at any time in pregnancy, "knowing that such abortion is sought based on the sex or gender of the child"; (2) use "force or threat of force. . . For the purpose of coercing a sex-selection abortion"; (3) solicit or accept funds to perform a sex-selection abortion; or (4) transport a woman into the U.S. Or across state lines for this purpose. However, "A woman upon whom a sex-selection abortion is performed may not be prosecuted or held civilly liable for any violation . . ." Ref. Source 4

New Video: Planned Parenthood OKs Sex-Selection Abortion Again
Yet another new undercover video in an investigation of abortion clinics across the country has a Planned Parenthood abortion facility and another abortion clinic affiliated with the National Abortion Federation arranging sex-selection abortions.

Today, Live Action released new undercover footage showing the NAF clinic in Raleigh and a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Chapel Hill advising women on how best to procure a sex-selective abortion of their baby girls because they want a boy instead. The Live Action project has now shown eight abortion centers in five different states willing to facilitate sex-selection abortions for pretend clients seeking them.

In the new video, an abortion counselor "A Woman's Choice of Raleigh, Inc," the NAF-affiliated clinic, refers a woman purportedly seeking a sex-selective abortion to an OB/GYN to confirm the gender of the baby with a diagnostic ultrasound. The counselor, "Jessica," assures that the abortion clinic will not have a conflict with performing a sex-selective procedure: "Your reasons are your reasons," she says, "You know, it's totally fine." Ref.
