People do this because they need to compensate for something that they lack. It is really up to the boss if he/she would tolerate such things.

This measure is good to a degree. Yes you want to follow the directions and apply it to others but when the moment that you are looked upon as a want to be boss.. That's the moment its too much and could actually backfire on getting a better position in the workplace. At that point you are putting a huge responsibility at the workplace and potentially harming the morality of the company within every action you do.

When you have KPI you don't need to kiss anyone, your result speak for yourself. If you do it for small advantages, well, it's human nature I guess, so it's up to the boss to understand that this behavior hinders a good work environment (And its performance as a result).

Some do this as a way of advancement and I couldn't be more confused by this. My view is if you keep your nose down(Unless its beneficial to not) and grind at your craft as to become the most obvious choice for advancement.

In an idea world kissing up should not work on your boss because he or she should be smart enough to know when an employee is just trying too hard but no… it is not a perfect world and no… bosses are not smart enough.

This is or was harder to do with people working from home during the pandemic. Its hard to make the boss feel special when you aren't there to be all in his face with your assets.
