Del Mar board votes to suspend fairgrounds gun show up to a year. Fair board directors voted 8-1 Tuesday to suspend the popular guns shows at Del Mar after Dec. 31 for up to a year until a policy is developed that could include a complete ban on the possession of any firearms or ammunition. All I can say about this is that the fairgrounds wants to ban everything except educational activities. I think they will find that there is not a lot of educational activities that will fill their event calendars. What about educational activities that promote the safe and legal gun ownership or the safe and correct handling of a weapon? Does anyone think that if you teach people how to handle guns safely that maybe some of this mistrust towards those that own guns will be lessened?
