Crashes Plane Indonesia

The search for missing AirAsia Flight QZ 8501 has been halted for the night, but big ships won't return to shore and will leave their searchlights on, according to the Indonesian Transportation Ministry.

The jet carrying 162 people lost contact with Indonesian air traffic control early Sunday over the Java Sea, gripping Southeast Asia with a second missing plane crisis in less than a year.

Before communication was lost, the captain asked permission to climb to a higher altitude because of bad weather, officials said. Ref. CNN

Indonesia Plane Crashes

Indonesian searchers using sonar equipment have located wreckage from AirAsia Flight QZ8501 at the bottom of the Java Sea, a search and rescue official told CNN on Wednesday. At the moment, they still don't know if it's in one piece or broken up, said the official.

The first two bodies from AirAsia Flight 8501 have arrived at a military airbase in Surabaya, Indonesia, the BBC, CNN and local media report. Pictures of the arrival were shown on Indonesian TV. Seven bodies have been recovered so far, Indonesian officials said. Some 162 passengers and crew were aboard the Airbus A320, which vanished on Sunday. Wreckage from the plane was found Tuesday. The hunt for the remaining passengers and crew was severely limited Wednesday due to heavy rain, wind and thick clouds. Ref. USAToday
