Ex-Dallas police officer indicted for murder after shooting her unarmed black neighbor. In a killing that triggered national outrage and claims of police racial bias, a federal grand jury indicted a fired white Dallas police officer on a murder charge Friday for fatally shooting her unarmed black neighbor after mistakenly entering his apartment. Officer Amber Guyger, who was employed by the police force at the time of the shooting, said she mistook Botham Jean’s apartment for her own and thought the 26-year-old man was a burglar. Ref. When I first heard of this case sometime ago my first reaction was this was somehow setup to look like it was a mistake or she was on drugs. When I heard she wasn't charged I was angry but I'm glad justice is prevailing.

Former Dallas cop Amber Guyger sentenced to 10 years in prison for fatally shooting neighbor Botham Jean in his own home. Amber Guyger was convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of her black neighbor after she mistakenly walked into his apartment and mistook him for an intruder. The judge ruled the jury could consider a "Sudden passion" defense that could reduce the sentence to two years, but in the end, jurors opted for a higher sentence. Ref. USAToday.
