Adam Lanza

Adam Lanza was named for the first time by Connecticut State Police as the gunman in Friday's shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

Lt. J. Paul Vance said Lanza died as a result of suicide. Vance said his mother, Nancy Lanza, died as a result of "Multiple gun shot wounds" in her home.

Vance also told reporters that Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster AR-15 "Assault-type weapon" most of the time at the school. Lanza was armed with magazines that held 30 bullets each, according to Vance. He said there were hundreds of bullets for the weapons as well.

Vance told reporters that an additional weapon, a shotgun, was recovered from a vehicle Lanza parked outside of the school. The gunman also had a Glock 10mm and a Sig Sauer 9mm, multiple magazines and additional ammunition. Ref. CNN

A gun safe was found in Newtown, Connecticut, shooter Adam Lanza's bedroom, according to documents released today in the investigation of the Sandy Hook school shooting.

The documents also show that investigators found more than 1,400 rounds of ammunition in the house where Lanza lived with his mother Nancy.

On December 14, Lanza, 20, took his mother's guns and shot her as she slept in her bed. Then he went to the school and gunned down 20 children and six staff members before killing himself. Ref. CNN
