West Virginia Hiking Trails
Where are the best local Hiking Trails in West Virginia? How many local West Virginia Hiking Trails are there and what kind of terrain is covered?
West Virginia has some incredible hiking trails. I go there often with friends to hike the hills and mountains. I have a few favorites and I'll detail a bit about each.
Kaymoor Trail: This one is an out and back trail located near Fayetteville, WV. It has a great waterfall. I think they rate this one difficult because of the climb but it's less than two miles. It's a ton of fun but you shoul dbe experienced.
High Falls Trail: The great thing about this one is there aren't many hikers on it usually. It's also a there and back again trail located near Glady, WV. This is also rated as hard, but I don't think it is. There is a great swimming hole once you get there and some awesome fishing to be had. This one is eight or so miles long.
Big Schloss Trail: This is a relatively easy trail and it is about 16 miles. It is located near Wardensville, WV. The hiking has some great scenery, especially in the Spring when the wild flowers are blooming. There are some good camping sights too.
Glade Creek: The New River to Pinch Creek portion is a 12 mile out and back trail located near Beaver, WV. It has some incredible scenery, really some of my favorite views. The waterfall at the end is quite a picture too. This one is rated as difficult.
North Bend Rail-Trail: This is the long one. It stretches for about 70 miles. It has a moderate amount of hikers on it and you come across the occasional campers too. Located near Parkersburg, WV it is a point to point hike, although you can travel a portion and use it as out and back trail. It has a great river, good fishing, and dogs love it. This one is rated as moderately hard but in truth it is fairly easy, just long.
