Multiple Firefox In System Memory

Firefox demands more memory with each new release and such is the case with their multiprocessor 'feature' that opens 5-6 firefox.exes. Each firefox.exe eats up your system memory and for me there isn't any notable speed increase. If you want to disable this so you only have one firefox.exe then in the Firefox location field put:

Get passed all the disclaimers and then in the top where it says "Search" type in:

In some cases there may also be a browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 put them both to "False" and then restart your browser.

Note, if you are a developer and dependent on mobile view then this will disable that feature but there are plugin alternatives.

Thanks for this, Firefox sometimes takes up a lot of the CPU percentage for only having 2-3 tabs up. Some people might say it's because of a lower-end PC but at the same time… It's just a browser, it should be simpler than other programs.

I use Chrome but this has also the same behavior. Each tab creates a separate instance of exe process and slowly eats up the system resources. Whether firefox or chrome, best solution is to always close all the tabs and browser at the end of usage in order to free the system resources. If you leave the app running then your system will be clogged.

The problem in this Topic is not tab dependent. When you first start Firefox it opens an array of exes with the hope of making your browser experience 'faster' which it does, but it will not work on slower, memory constrained systems.

Weird, my Firefox version 69+ does not produce such behaviour.
I am running on Ubuntu 18.04 laptop.
Perhaps this multiprocessor feature is not valid for Linux versions?
