When Mercedes-Benz designed the Smart car, chances are good it wasn’t thinking it would be a high-mileage freeway cruiser.

While the Smart Car is "cute" I don't see it as a practical option. It would never survive the commute on an Alaskan winter highway even with its high crash ratings. And it looks like there is pretty much no leg room. As much time as I spend in a car I want to be comfortable. It certainly is not family friendly. The starting price around $13,000 is attractive but not enough to make me want to buy it. I am looking for a car with great gas mileage but I do not think this is the one.
I am with you on your thoughts alskann. Also how does one go from a truck to a tinker toy? They person had bought the wrong vehicle in the first place I think.
If I was long hauling I would be looking at VW personally or a used army chev truck. You can get then from the Canadian army and come with the true diesel not the chev 350 converted to diesel and are a 24 volt system allowing for those awful cold start up north. I bet the US army has the same thing. you can get them cheap and are usually 4 wheel drive. If you know any in an army base near you ask them to find out what is coming up and which are in the best shape then trace them down via the vin number. Camouflage may look a tad redneck but you can paint it after for little since diesel trucks command a high price normally. fyi you get 30 plus mile per gallon even when plowing.
If pure mileage the issue get the jetta or gulf.
Ok I am confused. I thought that a 'Smart' car will be well uhm duh 'smart'? You know real cool features like the seat adjusting for itself to suit your height and leg room, rear view mirror doing the same, that kinda of thing. A smart car is a fuel efficient one? You mean I have been driving a dumb car all the time? Also as said earlier, how do you go from a pickup to a toy car? I mean come on. Geeze here I was thinking that we finally got KITT for sale for everybody
