I can agree with this. This is why if you have a history of epilepsy you should never go swimming alone. If you do go swimming have a person who can swim as good as you with you. You can never know when a seizure will take place. Granted meds make it easier but you can still suffer a seizure. If your in the water you want your friend or family member there to get you out of the water before you drown.
That is tough as one does not wish to miss out but I would think no more the waist deep. How on earth do you pull a full blown seizure out of the deep end with out some one getting hurt? Low scale seizure you might talk the person out but if they start spasms you are in real trouble as the adrenaline is likely to kick in also.

Even waist deep water is a danger. My little brother has trouble with seizures and he still goes swimming. The nice thing is the body has a tendency to float. The best thing to do if in that situation is use a arm to or leg to pull the seizing person to a part of the water where you are able to stand. All you have to do is keep their head above water so they do not drown. After the seizure is over you can get the help they need. If others are around they can go get help while you keep them from drowning. It is not a necessity to get them out of the water. Sometimes the water will help them to keep them from harming themselves.
True bashing water does little harm. Most I knew that had seizure would just fade out then back in again and to help them would be easy. One has to live life still. Thanks for sharing that Klar.

Good information to know Klar. Thanks for sharing it. I do have to wonder about this study though. It seems to me to be another one of those "duh" studies. It seems common sense that if you are prone to seizures and you had one in the water your chances of drowning are a lot higher than someone who does not have seizures. I would suspect if they did a study on driving a car or riding a bicycle or bowling they would find that the chances of injury or death are far higher for somebody who has seizures.
