Rising insulin prices are causing diabetics to ration medication, get the drug from friends or buy from other countries. The cost of insulin for diabetics has drawn national scrutiny as Congress examines factors contributing to the nation’s escalating prescription drug prices. All people with Type 1 and some with Type 2 diabetes need the drug, but regular price hikes make insulin difficult to afford for the uninsured and those whose coverage requires significant cost sharing. Type 1 diabetics paid an average of $5,705 for insulin in 2016 - nearly double what they paid in 2012, according to the Health Care Cost Institute. Source 2c.
That's really unfortunate for those patients but at the same time it's to be expected since the medical industry is only a massive business. I'm pretty sure that a permanent solution exists but that wouldn't bring out the money anymore, now will it?
