Joshua the Mercenary

My name is Joshua. It is a name given to me, because it was my father's name. I hold my name very dear in remembrance of him. I want the most powerful people to have my name on their lips as one of the greatest men to walk this planet. Either through popularity of good deeds or fear of the might I bring, "Joshua the Mercenary" should be known to all.

I call myself 'the Mercenary' because as a 16 year old orphan, I have to make my way in this world, and the one thing I was good at as a kid was doing whatever physically needed to be done. I got into a few fights as a boy, many of them won, but with each loss, I learned something about myself and it only drove me to be better. I spent the majority of my time outside doing physical labor, working on my body. It is my greatest muscle and one I hope to help pay my way in the world. With my 6'1" frame and muscular body, I don't see why I wouldn't be an asset to anyone needing a strong arm. I have brown hair and blue eyes, and my skin is tan from spending so much time outside. Along with a tan, I carry the scars and scratches of a boy who got into trouble from time to time. It was out of curiosity mostly, but an occasional boring day would lead me to strive for something new.

I didn't spend all my time working my body out. I also liked to read at night or when it rained. A strong body, but a weak mind will get men killed. I read everything I could get my hands on. I even read some books a few times.

In order to become the next Ruler of Kings, I plan on honing my skills as a swordsman, increase my knowledge on all things, and meet the most influential people just so they can say they know me. It won't be long until all have heard my name, Joshua the Mercenary!.

Stephanie was my father's child that neither me nor my mother knew about. After my mother perished, she revealed herself to me. At first, I thought she was a liar and a thief looking for an easy pocket to pick, but she told me things about my father, that only someone who knew him closely could tell me. It turns out my father was not only at war, he had an entire other family. It was awkward when she first let me know, because she knew about us, yet we had no idea about her or her mother. I felt like a fool, like I was betrayed by my father, and vulnerable. Luckily, Stephanie was a kindhearted woman who took pity on me and was trying to look out for me. It never crossed my mind that my mother and I was the "other family" until she told me. It made sense as she was older that I was.
