Trinidad & Tobago Teachers Salary Cut
Do you think the government of Trinidad & Tobago will reduce the salaries of teachers in the future?

Comments: I don't think the government should cut teachers salaries in the future. I strongly believe that teachers of this republic is under paid. The different kinds of stress and problems these teachers go through each day is shocking! Its a miracle that they show up to work. Some of these students are so rude, lack morals and etiquete. When they are spoken to they tell you flat that you(teachers)can't do them anything from infants straight up says this and the manner in which they speak to you, you will swear that you're the child/student and they the adults the list could go on about the number of stress teachers face each day I'm sure they that the vast majority of them don't get that problems with there own children. I as believe that corpral punishment is should allowed in the system again this would help these teachers get these students in order cause some parents don't seem to care and believe that its the teachers responsibility to make sure their children learn manners and morals and supply them with everything they need to face the world out there when they can only do so much.
Antonia, I agree with most of the things you said except the corporal punishment point but that's a discussion for another thread.
I think teachers are underpaid in this country. The level of stress is beyond comprehensible, specially with this new generation of children who think they have everything figure out. It's tough and the salaries do not match the kind of work a teacher has to go through.
I am pretty confident TTUTA will be negotiating salaries for the teachers soon.

Comments: I think teachers are not being paid for all the additional things that they go out of the way to do as they seek the interest of the children of the nation. Most teachers go out of their assigned duties to help the children under their care.
I believe teachers in this country do a lot however there is a lot of teacher delinquency as well that I hope is addressed with this new government.

Comments: I believe that the teachers of this country should not get a salary cut but an increased salary because of the rise in cost of living, the increased problems they now encounter in the schools and the increased educational level they are now required to have to enter into the teaching service. As for teacher deliquency every school has a system and it is up to the leader present in the school to make sure all rules and regulations are followed and if they are not doing their jobs why can't fellow co-workers speak up and not allow the deliquency to continue. Teachers need to always remember what is their social responsibilty and the functions of their job is not only to recieve a salary but to work for that said salary.

Comments: Teachers face a daunting task each day they enter the school's compound. Those who question their commitment or salary should teach a week in their shoes before passing judgment. Teachers deserve every cent they receive and more. In Trinidad and Tobago, teachers buy their own charts, books, teaching aids and other materials. Nurses don't buy medication or medical supplies when the hospitals run low. Policemen don't buy bullets for their guns. Teachers also do not receive allowances for clothes or shoes. Teachers also had and paid out of pocket for their own medical plan until government agreed to implement one. Teachers have to do all these things with the salary they receive. Teachers more than deserve the salaries they receive and it should be increased not cut.
Teach, I agree with you 100%! Most people don't see the amount of work that requires teaching and the amount of sacrifices involved. They judge all the teachers based on a few bad apples.
