Not an exception just strong willed and refuse to conform. Seriously though I would not be shocked if they do have a good sense of north and south. Think about whole herds that migrate or the natural instinct for many birds to head south.

I think a lot of animals could have this. I know the cattle around here I see usually face east or west. Maybe the are just a little bit off.

I am glad we have cows all around us. Very few sheep. In my opinion the only thing sheep are good for are eating and getting sweaters.
