SCOTT D. PIERCE: 'BATS' IS A BLOODY MESS
Believe it or not, I was actually looking forward to watching CBS's movie `Vampire Bats` when the screening tape arrived. And it turned out to be exactly what I expected it to be. Ref. Source

Vampire Bats (Hover)
This movie was a horrible experience to sit through. I rank this movie up there with other TV trash like "Locusts" and "Spring Break Shark Attack". It was a silly plot with a predictable ending and scenario. I almost couldn't finish watching it if not for the corny lines they kept throwing at me to keep me entertained.
Vampire bats found to carry infectious bacteria at high rates. A study found Bartonella infections in vampire bats are highly prevalent in Peru and Belize, and that Bartonella genotypes are distributed widely, rather than clustered geographically. Source 5d.
After release into wild, vampire bats keep 'friends' made in captivity. Vampire bats that share food and groom each other in captivity are more likely to stick together when they're released back into the wild, find researchers. While most previous evidence of 'friendship' in animals comes from research in primates, these findings suggest that vampire bats can also form cooperative, friendship-like social relationships. Vampire bats form deep social bonds by grooming before sharing blood. For vampire bats, sharing blood with a roostmate is the mark of a true bond. Though these relationships are uncommon, they demonstrate behavior akin to what some might call friendship. Researchers show how social grooming and food sharing can build up trust among unrelated vampire bats to form life-saving bonds that can last a lifetime. Source 7e.
