Fairness In Women’s Sports Act bans some transgender athletes. IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI/KIDK) - Idaho Governor Brad Little signed the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act in March, which makes Idaho the first state to ban transgender girls from participating in girls and women’s sports. "We know that sports is a very important part of many young people's lives," Transgender Advocate, Team USA, and Nike Source 8q.
Swimming's world governing body effectively bans transgender athletes from competing in women’s events. FINA voted 71.5% in favor of its new "Gender inclusion policy" that only permits swimmers who transitioned before age 12 to compete in women’s events. Source 1i.
In the case where the transgender is a born male participating in women's sports there is a definite advantage because the male body produces way more testosterone and the muscles of men are naturally bigger than a woman's.
That is one of the myths! Trans athletes do not have an unfair advantage in sports, and trans women, by going through the very hormonal treatment that lowers testosterone, counter the very thing people who don't know what they are talking about which they feel gives them an advantage. There are so many people who simply don't understand how transitioning works, and just assume or think it is fact that trans women have an unfair advantage because they don't actually research it. Especially for trans athletes in sports, especially professional sports, their testosterone levels are checked.
They may be taking chemicals to limit testosterone production but that still does not put them on a level playing field because they may be born with certain attributes already such as height, thickness and larger muscle structure. Additionally, there is nothing to say they do not stop taking their shots so that testosterone production continues.
If they stopped taking their hormonal treatment, and having testosterone at acceptable levels, trans women athletes wouldn't be able to continue to play. Plus, by the fact of what it means to be transgender, such women athletes wouldn't want to stop their treatments or shots. That as long as they are following NCAA standards, these athletes have and should have every right to play as women! Because trans women are women! That it has been determined as fair.
Not only all this, but it is always trans women athlete that people try to treat as an issue, despite the fact there has been no proof they have unfair advantage, and have played in sports just fine without issue. What of trans men athletes? No one has any issues with trans men playing in men's sports! All of this is transphobic myth and conjecture without basis in fact or evidence.
