Qualified Immunity
The Supreme Court will not reconsider 'qualified immunity,' which often shields police from civil suits alleging misconduct. The high court’s decades-old doctrine of “qualified immunity,” which has frequently shielded police officers and other officials from civil lawsuits alleging misconduct, has increasingly come under scrutiny since the death of George Floyd, an African American man, while in police custody in Minneapolis.
