We had a similar case here in the Philippines last year involving a Chinese national who had a casino debt with loan sharks amounting to a almost a million pesos. He staged a kidnap for ransom with the group of loan shark, sending a video back to his family in China so they could send money. The scam was discovered when they reviewed CCTV footage in the hotel where the Chinese was staying showing several meetings with the alleged kidnappers and the alleged victim.
