Over the last few years the Government has been concerned with the seeming unlimited expansion of electrical toy and appliances in the province. Why because we are getting to the point where we are using the same amount as that which we can transmit and generate.
So what have the done? There are many industrial and residential programs encouraging electrical conservation.
Industrial customers have seen as much as $300 per kW rebates for replacing old inefficient equipment such as heating systems and a big area that has been over looked for 30 years HID high bay lighting. Any lighting actually but that was the big saver for most of my customers with the best payback (6 to 24 months).
The big push I kept hearing over and over this summer was ensuring all appliances where shut off. One new device that came of this is power cords that can be turned off. To help us achieve this even remote switches have been made for them.

I do need to look into this as I think they could be wasting the customer hard earned dollars. In two ways one you are saving peanuts and the payback on the device is likely in the 10 year mark or more. Also what damage could you be doing to the appliance be sure to ask before using one.
After all keep in mind the government has not your best interest in mind but theirs. By getting us to reduce the energy used they forfeit having to build another nuclear station. A good thin all round in the long run.
What have the energy board in your area been proomting this summer?
We did the David Suzuki replace the light bulb on your front porch complain.
