Comments: I can't seem to get my child who is on the autism spectrum to eat anything else besides junk food. If he does not get it he can have a meltdown. Any suggestions?
Junk food cravings actually happens to a lot of people regardless or autism or not. I also understand what you are going through as our children have similar cravings if not curbed / directed. To understand the cause we need to know that cravings start in the gut and autism characteristics are greatly affected by the gut (Scientifically proven). Certain gut bacteria send signals to the brain for 'junk' food and the cravings start. It is a tough habit to break but you will definitely need to introduce more healthy options and provide alternatives so food does not become a calming medicine. This may also help:
