Comments: I need to get information to help my child who is on the autism spectrum but I often wonder if it is safe to do so on FaceBook groups that are labelled "Autism" or "Special Needs"? Who runs these groups and what about the people that answer the posts or my questions?
I've been reading the recent concerns about privacy, off topic spam and the sharing of 'private' posts in many Facebook groups. While they are genuine concerns, as a web developer I can tell you that once you come online and share something it is never truly private no matter the group or page. A group may also be very good at moderation but they cannot moderate what individuals do with your information. There is very little to verify who an individual is when they join a group. Anyone could fake information. I understand the grave need to get help from other parents but I ask that you be careful in how you go about doing it. I often see parents sharing information about their child, location, income, schedule and so forth that a predator can use to try and scam you at a later point. I am especially weary of the sharing of pictures and videos of children. I implore you to be very guarded about your child. Please watch this in its entirety and hopefully it will help you understand the importance of what and how you share information online and share it to all parents:
