Trinidad & Tobago's Crime Problem

Name: George

Title: Another waste of public money

Comments: Anyone familiar with what is going on in this country with regards to crime would be led to believe that our politicians are dumb, lack foresight, never learn by experience, and still believe they could buy their way out of our present crime scenario. Generally speaking politicians here give a clear impression that they are afraid to use the death penalty fearing they are going to offend those friendly developed nation. Mr Griffith our security minister, is again going to waste a lot of money by seeking more irrelevant advice from an American crime expert, who on his last visit told us what we already knew.
His expert advice on that visit made no difference whatsoever to our galloping crime rate. He however gained a fistful of dollars for useless information, and he is about to do the same again whilst enjoying the sunshine here.

Its a cultural thing. Just as 'we' are laid back about work and productivity its the same with how we see crime. Of course we all want crime to go down but the approach is always the same so you get the same results - crime out of control.

Title: Crime in T&T

Comments: The message coming from crime scenario here is that even if we had a more efficient and competent police force they would never be able to contain crime here without taking draconian measures.
The country can now be considered as a lawless nation. The responsibility for this lies squarely on the shoulders of past and present politicians.
This is supplemented by the attitude of those of status, those in positions of authority and the wealthy.
Their indulgence in personal greed, which is demonstrated by the galloping rate of the crime of corruption at the higher level of our society without any retribution has generated the various modes of lawlessness .
It merely encourages ordinary citizens to indulge in more sophisticated crimes of all types .It apparently is now too late for any local organisation to resolve our crime problems.
This is because too many government paid officials and influential citizens are now dabbling in corruption and deceit which sets a bad example, and clearly demonstrates that crime pays here.

Title: Crime in T&T

Comments: The only solution to this problem is to go back to basics. Intact family life, strong Spiritual beliefs, Community based Leadership, Authority with Accountability, Respect for Authority, Fostering compassion for each other, Sharing rather than hoarding, Focus on need versus greed. And last but not least-care for pet animals. The last point may sound "Off"- however, a society is judged by the treatment of their pets.

Title: Crime & Lawlessness

Comments: The impression given after 50 years of independence here, is that crime, corruption being the main element and general lawlessness have now become part and parcel of our culture. It now seems pointless in relying on our bunch of so called politicians, the police, the judiciary or those of status here to bring about the necessary changes to get back to some normality of a true democracy. The only way now left to achieve this is integration of the two main races to form a to united front. We need such a front to stand up against our rich and influential local wealthy corrupt politicians and people of authority, who are the manipulating criminals from both sides of the fence posing as our mentors, but who are generating most of the crimes on this island. If nothing is done, we can only look forward to more of the same for the foreseeable future

Title: Police stats

Comments: Police statistics all over the world is being questioned. The problem is that the criminals are gaining the upper hand. Most of the blame or this lies squarely on the shoulders of the civil rights movement and greedy lawyers. Criminals have in the last two decades have become very educated in using new techniques on how to get away with many serious criminal acts being guided by bent lawyers and using sentimental values of escape laid down by the Civil Rights Movements. The police world wide are now finding it almost impossible to deal with many serious crimes in an effective or efficient manner. In many cases they take the easy way out ether by turning a blind eye or subjecting them self to bribes and jumping on the bandwagon of corruption. As for the worthless stats produced by the police here, they may as well throw them in the bin. Remember these guys have to hold on to their established jobs and what better way to show that you are doing the job well by good stats.

Trinidad & Tobago's Crime Problem

That's very true George. It seems like the police as a whole worldwide is being questioned. There is a lot of corruption in the system and one wants to believe that there are a few bad apples and the majority isn't like that but I'm not sure anymore.

Having seeing myself a lot of things I rather not share, one ends up losing hope for those who are supposed to protect and serve.

For too long T&T has been allowed to develop into an anything goes kind of society. In other words lawlessness is considered OK so long as you are not 'killing' anyone. Breaking a red light or thieving a little is OK so long as you're not caught because your needs are greater than all the rest of law abiding citizens. This mentality is the beginning of crime and the continuations of it.
