On the same day as hosting Super Bowl LV, Florida became the first state to report 200 variant COVID-19 cases, USA TODAY analysis finds. Florida holds about 29% of the known variant cases in the country, and now has more variant cases than the entire country had Jan. 23. Each of Florida's known cases is of the U.K. Variant, which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says could be the predominant version in the United States next month. Sad to note that even with the win that state has one of the highest cases of the virus circulating and it is going to be worst now! And don't even start on the fact that everyone that came from other states will now take it back to their state.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended local COVID-19 emergency orders Monday and signed a proposal lawmakers previously approved that limits the government's ability to impose mask requirements and other social distancing measures used to combat the coronavirus. Tuesday will be the first full day the the altered rules will be in effect. The measure, Senate Bill 2006, also makes permanent DeSantis' executive order that prohibits "Vaccine passports," saying it is unnecessary "To be policing people at this point."
