Anyways, I think It just depends on your branch, and the chain of command. The military is not amazing nor does It suck. It offers It's opportunities but unfortunately, the bad tends to outweigh the good.

And also, don't blame the troops; they're doing the dirty work, blame those Colonels, Generals, and politicians who don't know crap of foreign policy [and] handling our men and women.

Really the problem is just the [chain of command] and government, not really the troops themselves. [..]

Comments: The military has changed in in the last decade, so if you were in before that you don't have a valid argument. If you're an officer, especially over O3 you can't really say anything because you get paid more than the highest ranking enlisted.
I'm in the army and joined for a challenge, to "Be all you could be." But every morning when we run; everyone is brought down to the pace of the slowest runner for the sake of "Unit cohesion." Any other exercise is only ever done in cadence, making it impossible to push your limits. Camaraderie was supposed to be forged in the fire of hardship and difficulties, you become close to those who share the same pain. But everything is goddamn easy it's impossible. Gone are the days when you could take the resident dumbshit and beat his ass for putting your squads life in danger. Gone are the days when an NCO could cuss without being reprimanded. GONE are the days when soldiers could be rightfully put in their place by being given a stern talking to without the risk of hurt feelings. The military has been tainted by political blowback and is now being run by civilians.
My leadership has made so many mistakes that it's common practice to question them, and it's an ongoing joke to act like common sense and good ideas are taboo. If my unit were ever be at war with a competent foreign military, I'd go AWOL out of fear of their demonstrations of sheer incompetence.

Women in the military has effectively extinguished any idea of brotherhood the military used to have. You can't have a conversation with you fellows about the women you've slept with or make a joke about [privates] without a female overhearing and getting slapped with a sexual harassment charge, being made to attend "Sensitivity" Training, or being accused of rape.

Now, having said all that, most is not true for the entire military. Each branch is divided into segments that are divided into sub segments and furthermore. Each containing their own social structure, leadership philosophy, and culture. And even that can be subject to change with outgoing and oncoming command who make their own rules. One might might trust you to get the job done by any means, the other could micromanage you entire life down to the clothes you sleep in or the way you pick up and move boxes.
Nobody can rightfully judge the branches of the military as a whole because every unit within is unique.

Probably the biggest thing that would suck is having to follow an order to do something you didn't believe was correct. For instance a war that just killed people but was not necessary at all, just killing for the sake of killing. Imagine blowing up a building and finding out the enemy was not there just frightened women and children.

Actually, that is one of the biggest fears of any of us who wear (Wore) the uniform. Sometimes you get bad intel and you end up shooting in the wrong direction. It hurts when you find out but you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and keep on soldiering for the guys and gals to your left and right.

Okay, that said that is the tactical level. At the strategic level the only way to truly win a war and not have a repeat ten or twenty years later is to break your enemy's will. We did that in WW 2 and there was a lot of collateral damage. But Germany and Japan were broken and they have been peaceful since. This didn't happen at the end of WW I and two decades later Germany started WW 2.

War is terrible. It's supposed to be terrible so we turn to it as a last resort. This antiseptic crap we're fighting now isn't war and because it's antiseptic it makes us forget what real war is like. It also makes it easy for it to last for ten plus years. I pray we never have to fight a war for national survival again, but if we do the rules will change and our leaders won't care about horrifying pictures on CNN. They'll only care about winning.

Suck Military US Does

Yes the military of today may suck because you have all these pansy assed people who do not want to see a real war and all that it entails. They are more for this small conflicts were the people they perceive as the bad guy is killed and no one else is hurt of made homeless. This is not war this is just a police action. Plus we have many in the military that think that same way. IF we ever see a real war again it will be very harsh and many people will not be able to handle it at all.

Yes, there will be a lot of twinkies out there that get their feelings hurt real bad and they won't know how to handle it. Especially when they complain the enemy is full of micro aggressions and the enemy just keeps micro aggressing. Hell, the enemy may even start to actual aggressing. They'll be calling for time out and safe zones… and the enemy will bomb the crap out of their safe zone.

A Marine colonel who investigated a sexual harassment claim at a troubled program inside the Corps' Quantico headquarters was later counseled for harassing the wife of the unit's chaplain, including a reference he made to her as "Eye candy." The Marine and Family Programs Division at Quantico was the subject of a Marine inspector general's report in 2015 for its toxic work environment. The report shows the program struggled with complaints of sexual harassment, racial bias and bad management, including a secret settlement reached with one official to get her to leave quietly from the base known as the "Crossroads of the Marine Corps." The Marines have not released the report, but a copy was recently obtained by USA TODAY.
