The Cleveland Indians seemed to have found a power bat since both Manny Ramirez and Jim Thome left town. His name is Travis Hafner. Hafner burst onto the scene last year in a big way and almost single-handedly pushed the Indians into the playoffs. This year he is off to a great start with 7 HR's and 14 RBI's. Hafner is surrounded by some good young talent in Victor Martinez, Ben Broussard and Casey Blake and with some strong pitching from Jake Westbrook and Cliff Lee, the Indians could find themselves in a good position come October.
I'm interested to see if Hafner can keep it up after his rookie year. It was a short year and pitchers have had a chance to see him now. Many great first year players settle down into a lower average after they start hot because pitchers learn them. However, I think the Indians are in good shape either way because their young talent is really starting to show this year.
Travis Hafner isn't a rookie, in fact, this is his 5th year in the big leagues and his 4th as an Indian. The last 2 years he's been able to produce over 100 RBI's but last year he proved he also has power in his bat, so this makes him a double-threat.
