Do Politics Affect How We Interpret Doctrine?

Will people who have differing Political views usually interpret Doctrine differently.

Example:
You have an Apostle (or any man or woman) who is politically Liberal and one who is politically Conservative. Do you think that their interpretation of revelation from the Holy Spirit will be fundamentally different?

In my experience, political beliefs greatly influence our understanding of doctrine. For example, I had a friend in Michigan who is very liberal, to the point that he equates Communism with the United Order. He and his wife claim that people just don't understand what communism is all about.

While this is a rather extreme example, it does appear to represent the trends that I see about me.

It shouldnt. I wanna believe most folks are smart enough to separate the two you know what am I saying? I just hate the mixing between politics and religion.

But can we really separate our politics from our religious views?

I believe that the following is a short list of Political issues that cannot be separated from religious views and vice versa.

1. Abortion
2. Same sex issues.
3. Gender issues.
4. Capital Punishment?
5. Israel/Palestine issue.
6. Individual rights vs. Public responsibilities. This may include Welfare issues or the right of the state to limit personal freedoms for the good of the whole (big brother).
7. Social engineering (the state is the primary avenue for saving the weak vs. religion and family structures.
8. Any political issue where we believe there to be a moral aspect involved (the ten commandments)

I think the list could be expanded.

I see what you're saying. I'm more thinking if religion affect politics than politics affecting religion (doctrine)
