Prop 8 - California's Marriage Challenge - Gay Marriage

Proposition 8 - Same-Sex Marriage - Page 10

Basically, what you are seeing is the ground work to take down the churches. It will also be a gateway argument into a whole lot of other things that they have no idea that they are opening up. But who knows, maybe G is cool with all that will come from this as well...

international QUOTE
Having civil union or marriage is like having drinking fountains for blacks and for whites. It isn't about whether or not the water is available it is about the fact that one is considered less than the other.

Once passed, it will be a few years (but not more) that a church (pick your favorite standard denominational church) will be sued because they refused to serve blacks and whites the same or rather they refused to marry gays and heterosexuals in the same place. Now with the legislation that was just potentially passed, you have a ruling history and precedence (very strong items in the legal world).

Think it is far fetched?

Have any churches been served an injunction or nearly served an injunction for potentially breaking civil laws - racial discrimination?

Honestly, it is only a mater of time before churches are sued for discrimination against gays, not allowing gay marriage and not (knowingly) promoting gays through their organization. This legislation will help pave the way.

The argument is brilliant and can be applied to so many things. Two people love each other should be able to get married and failure to allow it is depriving them of some basic right...how about cousins or immediate family (cuts down on the Christmas Card List). Why should someone have to be of age before they get married...isn't that depriving them and their partner of happiness? All those teachers having s-xual relations with their underage teenage students should really perk there ears up for this... I know. Vincenzo...underage and incest is taboo...we don't do that. Hmmm...30 or 40 years ago...was being gay or lesbian taboo? Just a matter of time... NAMBLA must really think that a door has just opened a crack after this.

I would really have no issue if the thing stops here, but I know it wont. It never does when a lawyer can make a few more dollars and I believe that the LGBT has a larger agenda. The lawsuit against the tobacco companies becomes a lawsuit against fast food restaurants and they use the same method of attack...just wait to see what this decision unravels...

Rather off topic, but...
Look for churches (ones that want to destinctly make marriage a man and wife union) to first define marriage and secondly to then rename it to avoid the law. That would be my suggestion to the churches...

Marriage Same-Sex Proposition

Yes, Vincenzo. This will destroy a lot of churches - or, also likely, a lot of churches will conform in order to stay in business (yes, most churches are businesses). It already happened the first time the Prop 8 issue came up that a church was sued for not allowing a gay or lesbian couple to marry in their church - even though, temporarily, the law said they could wed. (I don't have a link handy, but it may be earlier in this thread.) It *will* happen because it already has.

Rather off topic, but...
My church defined marriage a long time ago (1995, to be exact) in a Proclamation to the World as between a man and a woman, a sacred union in connection with God. Men and women have distinct roles in the family relationship. There are sacred ordinances in relation to marriage and family that cannot be performed between a man and a man or a woman and a woman. It would be disastrous to be forced, by law, to perform these unions or to be forced to allow already wed LGBT to participate in these ordinances. Will my church suffer? You bet. I don't think for one second that they would do it. Part of the reason they fought so hard for Prop 8.

See that is what really bothers me I guess. I believe that marriage is something between a man, woman and god. God is a part in a marriage. I feel that the LGBT should have the right to a civil union which is the same as a marriage just one that is not preformed before god.

Yeah I may get a lot of flack over this but I am one who sticks to his convictions. I do not hate LGBTs and I want everyone to be happy. But we have to stop giving in to everything before everything is against the law. Where do we draw the line in this? Can there be no compromise where everyone can be happy?

I think it is wrong to force priests to marry anyone, be it same sex or otherwise. I am sure there would be churches out there that would marry gays. I think it is a very bad idea to force a priest to marry two people he does not want to, very bad.

Marriage Same-Sex Proposition

What bothers me is this.

If we legalize same sex marriage. What does that mean for foster kids and legal adoptions, not to mention changing the definitions of a mother and father (mom and dad) too ? To me that is disaster of our society and corruption of an infant .. Borderline on child abuse to be frank. Just my opinion.

Proposition 8 - Same-Sex Marriage

I don't know if I would call it child abuse or even corruption. But what it does do is provide a base of support in the future for LGBT acceptance. There are already same-sex couples who adopt kids, whether the couples are married or not. Some of the women in same-sex relationships already have kids, or birth children into their household through artificial insemination or other means. Some men in same-sex relationships pay women to carry their children for them, so neither of these have to go through traditional adoption processes. These kids grow up in mom-mom or dad-dad families, and learn from infancy to accept these relationships as normal. They don't all grow up to be in same-sex relationships, but they have an affinity for the families in which they grew up. Legalizing marriage for same-sex couples simply legitimizes the process even more, and will increase acceptance of same-gender parents. Yes, it will change society as we know it.

Rather off topic, but...
Maybe it's like the old English conquering of Scotland - if you can't beat the patriotism out of them, breed it out. (Prima Nocta.) If more kids grow up in these types of families, eventually the mind-set of the majority of people will change. It only takes one generation.
