4 Day Work Week
What do you think about the 4 Day Work Week started by Utah and now spreading across the US in other States that want to save money by requiring State workers to work four days instead of five in a week?

The union should be outraged and threatening strikes and working to rule. So yup mew thinks they are making a big mistake. What are trying to do head back to the 1930's?
I watched our nursing staff go down this road back in 70's early 80's. The had nice 8 hours shift rotating 3 shifts. then they when to 10 hour shifts with limited over lap for trading information for the day. Guess what they soon got conned into 12 hour shifts. Oh people where excited we get 4 day weekends and we get 5 day weekends. Sure they did and most did not mind the 5 day straight they worked to get them.
Now lets look at the end result, 36 to 44 hours is full time staff. 0 to 35 is part timers so the nice management team seized the nursing greed to get the 12 hour shift. Now can I ask you what is 3 times 12 minus 1.5 for unpaid lunch. Yup you got it a part time position, no benefit no holidays no entitlements to all the good thing they had.
So to me I think any time management comes up with more hours and less day they can forget it.

Is a four-day workweek realistic? A new bill in Congress aims to give Americans more free time - but don't get your hopes up. Progressive Democrats are renewing a push to make four-day workweeks federal law, with lead sponsor Rep. Mark Takano of California saying the change will give Americans more time "To live, play, and enjoy life more fully outside of work." Source 9h.
