Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi Reviewed

This kid is only 20 years old and a talent described abroad as good as Diego Maradona (his idol). He made a goal recently just like the one Diego did in the World Cup 86' against England and no, I am not talking the one with the "hand of God" laugh.gif but the other one where he (alone) defeats several English players from half field and makes a fantastic goal that is now considered, the best goal in the history of football.

Well, Messi did a very similar goal but what was the difference? Well, it was not a World Cup neither he was playing against England, nevertheless this boy has an amazing future. I hope he keeps himself as humble as he seems to be. Health issues and all, the story of this kid is kind of miraculous.

international QUOTE
Lionel Andres Messi (born 24 June 1987 in Rosario, Argentina) is an Argentine international football player, who currently plays for FC Barcelona in the Primera División. Often touted in the media as New Maradona, Messi has been publicly named as his "successor" by Diego Maradona.

Lionel Messi was born in Santa Fe Province on June 24, 1987. At the age of five, he started playing football for Grandoli, a club coached by his father. In 1995, Messi switched to Newell's Old Boys.[2] At the age of 11, he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency.[3] River Plate showed interest in Messi's progress, but did not have enough money to pay for the treatment of the illness, which cost over £500 a month. As Argentina's economy was collapsing, Carles Rexach, then sporting director of FC Barcelona, was made aware of Messi's talent, and Barcelona signed him after watching him play,[4] offering to pay for the medical bills if he was willing to move to start a new life in Spain.[2] His family moved with the young player to Europe and he starred in the club's youth teams.[4]

He soon found himself starting for the Barcelona B team, averaging more than a goal per game, by scoring 37 goals in 30 matches.

One of the problems with Lionel Messi is that he performs well when playing in Europe but when he plays for Argentina he just cannot put the ball in the goal.

He will do great in this world cup, I have confidence in this tiny, humble boy who is so talented. No doubt in my mind he will reach far in his career.

The World Player of the Year is what we call Class on the Grass. He has perfect poise and character on and off the ball, a killer finish and he seems like a sound geezer.

JB, how much you know about football? sneaky.gif Since when a player is considered great if it makes goals? Diego Maradona was the best player in the history of football and he was not, I repeat NOT a striker or one to make goals. Yet, he was the MASTERMIND behind the goals in the form of passes, etc. Messi is very similar in that aspect. From ALL the games Argentina played so far, if you have observed, the mastermind of it all was Lionel Messi.
