SPACE.com - WASHINGTON - A former NASA scientist has used radio waves to transmit solar power a distance of 92 miles (148 km) between two Hawaiian islands, an achievement that he says proves the technology exists to beam solar power from satellites back to Earth.

Power Solar Space Hopes Boosts Experiment

I can see this being something that could be useful. But we have to remember that if something goes wrong what type of radiation or other occurence will happen if the satellite beams the energy to the wrong area?
