Shooting in Farmington, Utah
At a news conference Tuesday night, Hansen said negotiations with Wood were not progressing and that he, a unified command team and several members of the SWAT team made a joint decision to try to take Wood into custody using nonlethal tactics. "We felt we had an opportunity to bring him in safely," Hansen said. As police fired tear gas and set off flash grenades, Woods fired a shot and an officer returned fire, killing him, Hansen said.

I think the police did the right thing here. They tried to bring him in and end the stand off with no one getting hurt. Once he fired at officers they did the right thing by firing upon him. IF the neighbors did not like it then tough. Let them try to make a split second decision like that. I bet they would have shot him too.
