Just to throw in my 2 cents' worth here.
I nursed both my kids until they were past 3. My son was actually just before he turned 3, but my daughter weaned just as she turned 4. (I had to explain to her that 4-year-olds don't nurse... and she accepted that, and it took several weeks, but on her 4th birthday we quit.)
You have to understand, once they get past the age of 1, it's not like they're nursing every couple of hours like they do as infants. They are not relying solely on breast milk for all of their nutrition. However, if you're going to substitute any other kind of milk for that child once it's weaned, when they are still needing milk -- why give them inferior cow's or goat's milk (or soy milk or rice milk) when their own mother makes milk specifically designed for her own child? Ridiculous! Waste of time and money, and *that* is where allergies, obesity, diabetes, and a host of other ills start to show up in many kids. You don't see FAT breastfed kids.
Rather off topic, but...
That is another reason breastfeeding mothers shouldn't discuss breastfeeding with men, particularly men with no kids. You don't understand the real function of breasts, AND you probably were weaned before you were ready and now have a breast fixation. Who needs evaluation now? |
Yah well, I got a 16 year old niece that still sucks her thumb. Has anyone ever heard of being stuck on the tittie? She is really smart to. I mean really smart. Full ride to college smart. She is taking college corses now? When she is relaxed she sucks her thumb. Does anyone know how aggravating that is? I have to tell her to pull her freaking thumb out of her mouth. She is a habitual offender. That is going to be a real odd thing for her in the professional world.
Raised by a single mother. Not my Arena, but I feel as though I should point some things out.
You gave me $2 and I am giving $1.98 back in change.
Sucking thumbs has nothing to do with breastfeeding, Quasar.
This isn't about "titties," and if you can't refer to breasts in the proper terminology, you should refrain from discussing this topic. It's completely disrespectful to every man and woman trying to have an adult conversation here.
Being raised by a single mother doesn't qualify you for discussing breastfeeding issues.
