Food For Thought

I always read this whenever I am feeling blue:

LIFE IS A GIFT

Today before you say an unkind word, Think of someone who can't speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food, Think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend, Think of someone who is crying out to God for a companion.

Today before you complain about life, Think of someone who went too early to heaven.

Before whining about the distance you drive, Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job, Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.

And when depressing thoughts seem to get you down, Put a smile on your face and think: you are alive and still around!

Thanks for that Geenie. Something else to think about to.

Yesterday is the past and tomorrow has not gotten her yet. Today is the day to live for that is why it is a gift. After all it is the present.

Thanks Geenie!
I try to remember this. And also in my work with depressed clients I will sometimes ask them list their blessing or what is good in their life. Usually they are just happy to be alive. It helps to realize you don't have it so bad. If they can't think of anything at the time I ask them to tell me when the last time was that they felt happy. Then when they do we discuss what was going on at the time - what did it look like. They are usually able to think of what was different about then and now. Then they start to realize they have the capability to make it good again.

It seems that almost always when disaster strikes people will say, well at least nobody was killed. Or I lost my house but my family is safe. And they begin to see what is really important.
