Costumer Runs Off With Laptop
You are not even safe to buy a car or sell any other product through an ad anymore. Sometime ago a young man from Tobago was brutally murdered when he went to see a car he saw on the newspaper, he was ready to buy it but the killers had another plan for him. Imagine, they killed him just to take his money.
In this case, the businessman was "lucky" and he was not hurt. The location where this happened is a place where there is a lot of people, this happened at 11:45 am! How bold can criminals be to do this at day light which we are seeing more often!
QUOTE POSING as a would-be customer, responding to a classified advertisement, a bandit robbed a South businessman of a laptop and a web camera yesterday.
At around 11.45 a.m yesterday, the businessman, who requested anonymity, said he met the man outside Xtra Foods Grocery at Grand Bazaar, Bamboo Settlement. The man had called the businessman concerning the purchase of a laptop advertised in the newspaper.
"He said he was from St James, so I said would meet him halfway," said the businessman, speaking to the Sunday Express.
The businessman said he showed the computer to the man, who then snatched it, along with the webcam, and ran to a nearby vehicle. The driver of that vehicle sped off with the robber inside before the businessman could confront either of them.
It is not the first time a classified ad has been used as a crutch to criminal activity, although in this case, the person who placed the notice was the victim of the crime. Earlier this year, Elroy Quashie of Plymouth, Tobago, was killed after coming to Trinidad to buy a car listed in a classified section of a newspaper. It is believed that his killers may have placed the advertisement....
